Federal Funding Presented for East Ferris Cenotaph Restoration

(EAST FERRIS, ON) During this solemn Remembrance Week, the Municipality of East Ferris gathered with community members, veterans, and dignitaries to honour the sacrifices of Canadian service members and to mark a significant investment in preserving their legacy.

Pauline Rochefort, Member of Parliament for Nipissing—Timiskaming, was honoured to present a federal contribution of $25,000 on behalf of Veterans Affairs Canada to support the restoration of the East Ferris Cenotaph in Corbeil. The funding is provided through the Commemorative Partnership Program, which supports initiatives that commemorate the achievements and sacrifices of those who served Canada.

"It is with deep respect and gratitude that I present this funding on behalf of Veterans Affairs Canada," said MP Rochefort. "This cenotaph is more than a monument, it is a symbol of our community's enduring commitment to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom."

Originally constructed in 2011, the East Ferris Cenotaph has experienced wear over time. The restoration project will address structural issues, including cracked and chipped concrete, deteriorating paint, and moisture damage. The work will include concrete repairs, installation of weeping tiles, and repainting to ensure the monument's longevity.

The project is a collaborative effort between the Municipality of East Ferris with East Ferris Memorial Park and the East Ferris Knights of Columbus Council #6664. This local Knights Council is observing its 50th anniversary this year, and the dedication of its members to remembrance and community service has been instrumental in bringing this initiative forward.

"This restoration ensures that future generations will continue to have a place to gather, reflect, and honour our veterans," said Mayor Richard Champagne. "We are grateful to Veterans Affairs Canada and to all our community partners for making this possible."

The funding from Veterans Affairs is available through March 31, 2026.
