MP Rochefort Appointed Parliamentary Secretary (Rural Development)

(OTTAWA, ON) Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Pauline Rochefort was sworn in as Parliamentary Secretary to the Secretary of State (Rural Development) and appointed to the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates.

“The Canadian government is working to help rural communities grow and succeed, recognizing how important they are to the country’s economy and society.   This appointment is an opportunity to support the many rural constituents and businesses in Nipissing-Timiskaming and across Canada,” said Rochefort.

A Parliamentary Secretary is a Member of Parliament (MP) appointed by the Prime Minister to assist a Cabinet Minister or Secretary of State in their parliamentary duties.

The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates has the mandate to review the process for considering estimates and supply, as well as the format and content of all estimate documents.

“The Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring government operations are effective, efficient, and transparent, with a particular focus on the financial aspects of government activities, including those of the Privy Council Office, Treasury Board Secretariat, and Public Services and Procurement Canada,” said Rochefort.

The committee is a nine-member multi-party committee with four Liberal Members of Parliament, four Conservative MPs and one Bloc Québécois MP.
